Alan Poon Scholarships for Prospective English Teachers or Academics

I received the Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers or Academics, which was donated by Mr. Alan Poon, for my academic performance in the 2023/24 academic year and my passion for English language teaching and research. The scholarship was awarded to one final-year undergraduate at the department each academic year.

I was placed on the Dean’s List by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts for my academic performance in the 2023/24 academic year. Undergraduate recipients were in the 90th percentile (Top 10%) and reached an overall GPA of at least 3.5.

Best Non-ENGL Presentation Award

Department of English and Communication, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I received the Best Non-ENGL Presentation Award for my presentation (“The impact of ChatGPT on the acquisition of English indirect questions: A mixed-methods study”) at PolyU Undergraduate Conference on Applied Linguistics and Language Studies (PolyU-CALLS) 2024. The award was given to the best presentation (selected out of 35 qualifying presentations) by a presenter beyond the Department of English and Communication (ENGL), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

I received the Exemplary Capstone Project Award from the Department of English, The Chinese University of Hong Kong for my undergraduate capstone project (“The impact of ChatGPT on the acquisition of English indirect questions: A mixed-methods study”). The award was given to the best projects with nominations from supervisors.

Scholarship for Pro Bono English Volunteer Teaching

New Asia College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Amount: HK$42,100 

I received the Scholarship for Pro Bono English Volunteer Teaching from New Asia College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Awardees of the scholarship (2 in the 2023/24 academic year) were required to undertake at least 160 hours of English language tutoring service to financially challenged students. In lieu of tutoring service, I proposed to organise a free mock examination for underprivileged HKDSE 2024 candidates.
